THE RESTORATION PROCESS
Looking after you at every step
EXAMINATION AND CONSULTATION
We will take the time to sit with you and discuss your expectations and specifications.
We will undertake a thorough examination of your vehicle and give you an evaluation of the work required.
DISMANTLING AND CATALOGUING
Each part of your vehicle is removed with great care, is labelled and catalogued.
We know how precious your vehicle is and take extra care when removing interior panels and trim.
Once disassembled, all parts are securely stored in a dedicated area for your vehicle.
PAINT STRIPPING AND MEDIA BLASTING
Media Blasting is a very cost effective and popular means of getting a vehicles parts stripped back to bare metal.
The process of media blasting can reveal some ugly truths about the condition of your vehicle, however any areas or rust or corrosion can now be taken care of.
Our media blasting is done onsite with our own blasting equipment.
RUST REPAIRS, METAL FABRICATION AND WELDING
If the media blasting has highlighted any rust or corrosion, we can now take care of this. This is of particular importance in areas such as the chassis, frames and on more modern era classics, pillars and floors.
We have the option of cutting out affected areas and replacing it with new metal, replacing entire panels or fabricating the replacement from scratch.
Regardless of the severity, we will ensure that you are provided with the options and advised the best option for your vehicle.
PREPARATION FOR BODYWORK
The bare steel now needs to be protected from the elements. If left unattended rust can start to set in within a matter of hours given the right conditions.
Bare metal is protected using either single stage E coat primer, a two part epoxy primer or in some instances, Kephos.
We will ensure that your vehicle is prepped for any body work and panel beating.
BODY WORK AND PANEL BEATING
To insure a top quality finish it is imperative that all of the vehicles panels are straight, true and free from any signs of repair. Even the smallest imperfection will show once a paint is applied.
Our body work and panel beating process ensures that we achieve a defect free finish.
PREPPING FOR PAINT AND PAINTING
Once a vehicle or panel has been through the body work process it needs to have a topcoat primer applied in readiness for paint.
After the specified curing time, each panel is guide coated and block sanded to check for any imperfections.
Any remaining low points or imperfections are filled and repaired.
ELECTRICS AND WIRING
If your vehicle is mid 50's or older then it most likely has a cloth wrapped copper or aluminium wiring harness encased in a rubber sleeve.
These would have served well in their day but as time goes by they become brittle. Age, moisture and heat start to rot the materials surrounding the wires. Eventually parts of the harness crack and break off exposing the wires that run through your dash, chassis or under your carpet.
If that wire comes into contact with metal or another wire then you cause a short in the system.
In modern cars with a 12v system this usually results in a popped fuse but in older cars with a 6v you don't have the luxury of this feature and a short usually results in heat building up in the wire harness. This heat is very intense and will cause the surrounding insulation to smoulder and catch fire within a matter of seconds.
Where possible it is always best to remove the old wiring harness and replace it with a new one. In most cases a plug and play harness can be purchased.
If a complete harness is not available or not required we can custom make a harness or loom to suit your requirements.
You can also book your car in for any minor electrical problems that you may be having. Indicators, window switches, alternators/generators, radios etc are just a small example of what we can fix.
